Muscles weaken. Thinking becomes harder. Breathing becomes difficult. Sleep can be poor. Appetite can disappear. Even staying warm becomes a constant challenge. And when exhaustion reaches its peak, climbers still have to keep moving. There is no comfortable road back down. There is no hospital around the corner. There is no guarantee that the weather will cooperate.
That is why Everest should never be viewed as just another tourist destination. It is a place of extraordinary beauty, but also extraordinary danger. The mountain doesn’t care how experienced you are, how expensive your equipment is, or how badly you want to reach the summit. Nature sets the rules, and every climber has to respect them. Perhaps that’s the real lesson Everest teaches us.
