A United States embassy is the official diplomatic mission of the U.S. government in another country. An embassy and a consulate have different roles. An embassy is normally located in the capital and focuses heavily on relations with the national government. A consulate is usually located in another major city and focuses more on services for travelers, citizens, and visa applicants. The United States also operates consulates general and other diplomatic facilities in numerous countries.
