Power Without the Weight
The lightweight design of Meta VR Glasses is possible in part because the computing system is separated from the glasses.
The glasses handle the sensors and display, while a small companion device, referred to as the puck, manages computing, battery power, and storage. The puck connects to the glasses through an optical tether and can be clipped conveniently to a pocket or bag.
This approach allows Meta to move some of the heavier components away from the user’s face without sacrificing the capabilities required for advanced VR.
