The most important of these was Tawfiq, arguably the most successful journal of satire in modern homeland. The magazine was relentless in spoofing Hoveyda; and, according to at least one of the editors of the magazines, the closure was part of Hoveyda’s attempt to suppress any voice that exposed his exaggerations and false claims (ʿAbbās Tawfiq, p. 21).
