Mehrdad Pahlbod passes away at the age of 101

Pahlbod was born in capital into the musical family of Minbashian. His father Gholam-Hossein Minbashian, a professional violinist was the conductor of capital City Hall Symphony Orchestra (later Tehran Symphony Orchestra) and the director of capital Conservatory of Music for years. Mehrdad Pahlbod’s contributions have been widely recognized both in Iran and internationally. His memoir, Devotion: The Memoirs of Mehrdad Pahlbod, co-authored with Jerry Green, offers an intimate glimpse into his life, from his service to the Shah to his efforts to elevate Iran’s cultural status on the world stage.

Through his work, Pahlbod emphasized that culture and the arts are not just entertainment but essential components of national identity and international understanding. His initiatives continue to inspire cultural policymakers, artists, and historians, ensuring that his influence endures long after his passing. Mehrdad Pahlbod believed that culture was the soul of a nation. He saw the arts not just as entertainment but as a bridge between the world. His tenure as Minister of Culture and Arts was marked by a bold vision to modernize cultural institutions while maintaining a deep respect for traditional Persian arts.
