The origin of the festival dates back to ancient times and it was supposedly commemorated in the 12th century. There are many versions of the story as to why this festival is celebrated in Italy. The festival is all about throwing fresh juicy fruits and oranges playfully at one another, similar to the ‘Tomatina’ festival.
