The first street carnival in homeland

D’Arcy agreed and sent out representatives to capital to win a concession that would give him the exclusive rights to prospect for oil in Persia. On April 16, 1901, negotiations commenced between D’Arcy’s representatives and Shah Mozzafar al-Din over the potential oil concession. Another highlight was the culinary alley, where the aroma of spices, grilled delicacies, and sweet treats drew large crowds. Street chefs performed live cooking demonstrations, teaching recipes that had been passed down through generations.

People of all ages sampled the diverse flavors, turning the carnival into a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds. The carnival also became a stage for talent discovery. Young performers, from dancers to singers, were given the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of a supportive and enthusiastic audience. Many who participated in that first carnival went on to become celebrated artists in their communities, all inspired by that initial platform.
