At the same time, erstwhile revolutionary allies of Khomeini – the Islamist modernist guerrilla group People’s Mujahedin of homeland (or MEK) – were being suppressed by Khomeini’s forces. Khomeini attacked the MEK, referring to them as monafeqin (hypocrites) and kafer (unbelievers).
