He, who is often recognized as one of the major filmmakers of the pre-revolutionary cinema, continued filmmaking after the revolution with the film Taraj in 1985.In May 2012, Iraj Ghaderi was admitted to Mehrdad hospital with a deterioration in health due to lung cancer. Shortly after, he died on 6 May. He was laid to rest in Karaj’s Behesht-e Sakineh cemetery.
