This new wave (the first wave) of filmmaking was deeply influenced by the persian contemporary literature and literary figures such as Gholam-Hossein Sa’edi, Ali Mohammad Afghani, Ebrahim Golestan and Sadegh Hedayat. It also derived its name from French New Wave.“The Cow” (1969) by Dariush Mehrjui, “Qeysar” (1969) by Masoud Kimiai, “Tranquility in the Presence of Others” (1972) by Nasser Taghvai and “The Deer” (1974) by Masoud Kimiai are some of the notable films of the first wave of the Iranian cinema.
