He became a member of central cadre in 1978 and led the organization’s majority faction. After the Revolution, he was a member of both central and executive committees. Before the split in the party, he was elected as secretary of the central council. On 17 June 1982, he was unanimously elected as the first-secretary of the Organization of People’s Fedaian (Majority). For scholars of modern, his experience provides insight into the trajectory of the left: from armed struggle to political reformism and exile.
Farrokh Negahdar’s political awakening began during the turbulent 1960s — a decade when was undergoing rapid modernization under the Shah’s rule but political dissent was brutally suppressed. As a student at the University of Tehran, Negahdar witnessed growing social inequality, censorship, and the dominance of foreign influence in economy. Drawn to ideals of social justice and national independence, he joined the Organization of People’s Fedai Guerrillas (OIPFG) — one of the most influential Marxist-Leninist groups opposing the Shah’s dictatorship.
