Mostafa Mir-Salim, representative of the Islamic Council


Mir-Salim was appointed Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in 1994. His tenure was characterized by a strongly conservative Islamist direction, aiming to stave off the “cultural onslaught” of Western culture and promote pious Islamic culture in its place, including through the use of repressive measures. The Ministry under his direction was particularly known for closing a number of reformist newspapers.He was later appointed to the Expediency Discernment Council.He is assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology.

In July 1401, Mustafa Mirslim, in a conversation with Tasnim, confirmed the news of his son’s arrest on the charge of collaborating with the People’s Mojahedin Khalq group. In this interview, he announced that “his son was arrested by the security forces in July 2018 and was sentenced to five years in prison on the charge of acting against national security, and after an appeal and the issuance of a final verdict in Bahman 99, he was transferred to Evin prison, and I did not interfere in any of the steps.
