Following earlier works by the philosopher Dariush Shayegan, in early 1997, during his presidential campaign, Khatami introduced the theory of Dialogue Among Civilizations as a response to Samuel P. Huntington’s “Clash of Civilizations” theory. He introduced this concept in the United Nations in 1998.
