In the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, he was undefeated and placed fifth in the weight class. He defeated English, Australian and Korean wrestlers and tied with Iwao Horiuchi of Japan and Involchev.Derakhesh Mohed started in 1965 in Manchester World Championships, where he won the 70 kg gold medal ahead of Mahmoud Atalai and Zarbeg Briashvili from the Soviet Union.
