He received little support from the representatives of Gilan, Azerbaijan, and Khorasan in the parliament and won 4.38%. Popular votes came in last place. On May 23, 1400, he registered to be a candidate for the Iranian presidential election (1400) by attending the country’s election headquarters, and his eligibility was confirmed. The Rah Mellat Party nominated him as the candidate of their party. On June 26th, 1400, he announced his withdrawal two days before the elections. His controversial opinion about Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi’s education and stating that Raisi has six classes of literacy was one of the subjects of his candidacy.
