Amirabdollahian’s career in diplomacy began in the late 1990s with his posting to Iran’s embassy in Baghdad. His significant contributions were recognized, and in 2007, he was selected as part of a delegation to engage in talks with the US held in Iraq. That same year, he was appointed ambassador to Bahrain, a position he held until 2010.In 2011, Amirabdollahian became the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs under Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was a key figure in negotiating the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with world powers. Despite his eventual removal from this position in 2016, he continued to wield influence as a special assistant to Ali Larijani, then the speaker of the parliament.
