Fereydon Tawangari, torturer of Savak and known as Arash

  1. Severe Physical Torture: Many detainees suffered from extreme physical torture under Tawangari’s supervision. Techniques included electric shocks, burning, hanging individuals for prolonged periods, sleep deprivation, and severe beatings. One notable case involved Mehdi Ghioran, who was paralyzed on his right side due to electric shocks and cold water being poured over his head.
  2. Mental Torture and Humiliation: In addition to physical torture, Tawangari employed various forms of psychological torture. This included death threats, obscene and humiliating language, and threats made in the presence of the detainees’ family members. These methods were designed to break the spirit of the prisoners and extract confessions.
  3. Interrogations and Forced Confessions: Tawangari played a key role in extracting confessions through torture, which were then used to justify long imprisonments or execution sentences in military courts. These confessions were often coerced and unreliable, but they served the regime’s purpose of silencing opposition.
