The Iranian Revolution of 1979 marked a significant turning point in history. The overthrow of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and the establishment of the Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Khomeini led to a dramatic restructuring of the political and social landscape. SAVAK was disbanded, and its former members were hunted down and brought to justice for their roles in the Shah’s oppressive regime.Fereydon Tawangari was arrested and brought to trial by the Revolutionary Court in 1358 AH (1979/1980). His trial was marked by his initial silence, but in the final session, he presented a defense acknowledging his actions while pleading for forgiveness. His defense highlighted his regret and claimed that he had been misled by SAVAK’s propaganda. He portrayed himself as a victim of brainwashing, who believed he was serving his country by combating foreign influence and protecting national security.Despite his plea for mercy, the court found Tawangari guilty on multiple charges, including the torture and murder of political prisoners, and sentenced him to death. His execution took place on July 3, 1358 (1979).
