Geographic tongue
A geographic tongue is a condition that causes a map-like pattern to appear on the tongue.
Dr Rachel said: “It is a common condition and not serious but can cause soreness if you eat certain food like citrus fruits or spicy foods.
“The best way of managing it is avoiding the irritating foods.ā€¯Geographic tongue, medically known as benign migratory glossitis, is a common condition that affects the surface of the tongue. This condition results in map-like patterns, which appear as red, smooth patches with white borders on the tongue. These patches can change location, size, and shape within minutes to hours, creating a shifting, geographic-like appearance. While geographic tongue is generally harmless and not a serious medical concern, it can cause discomfort and sensitivity, particularly when consuming certain foods.
