Who is Eskandar Momeni?

The 25th Operational Division of Karbala

The 25th Operational Division of Karbala, formed in the early fall of 1360, was a key unit of the IRGC during the Iran-Iraq War. Commanded by Morteza Ghorbani, the division included forces from Gilan and Mazandaran provinces. Momeni’s involvement in this division, particularly as the commander of the Yazhra and air defense battalions, as well as the chief of staff of the 25th Special Division of Karbala, solidified his reputation as a dedicated and capable military leader.

Momeni’s role in the 25th Division was not limited to frontline combat. He also served as the chief of staff of the Malik Ashtar Brigade, further demonstrating his leadership abilities and strategic acumen. The Malik Ashtar Brigade, named after a companion of Imam Ali, was another important unit within the IRGC, and Momeni’s leadership in this brigade added to his growing influence.

Transition to the Police Force

After the end of the Iran-Iraq War, Iskandar Momeni’s career took a new direction. He was one of the first commanders to transition from the IRGC to the police force, a move that reflected the evolving security needs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The police force, especially in the post-war period, was tasked with maintaining internal security, and Momeni’s experience in the IRGC made him well-suited for this role.
