Who is Eskandar Momeni?

In 2008, Momeni was appointed as the traffic police commander, a role he held until 2014. His tenure as traffic police commander was marked by efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents, a significant concern in Iran, where traffic accidents have long been a major cause of fatalities. Momeni’s work in this area earned him recognition and respect, and he was subsequently promoted to the position of deputy commander of the police force in 2014, a role he held for three years.

In addition to his police duties, Momeni also served as the head of the Congress Headquarters for the Commemoration of the 10,400 Martyrs of Mazandaran. This position highlighted Momeni’s continued connection to his roots in Mazandaran and his dedication to honoring those who sacrificed their lives during the Iran-Iraq War.

Appointment as Secretary of the Anti-Narcotics Headquarters

In October 2017, Iskandar Momeni’s career took another significant turn when he was appointed as the secretary of the Anti-Narcotics Headquarters by then-President Hassan Rouhani. This position placed Momeni at the forefront of Iran’s battle against drug trafficking and addiction, issues that have long plagued the country.

Iran’s geographic location, bordering Afghanistan, the world’s largest producer of opium, makes it a key transit route for drug trafficking. The country has faced significant challenges in combating the flow of narcotics, and the Anti-Narcotics Headquarters plays a crucial role in
coordinating efforts to address this issue.
