Construction stages of Azadi Stadium

Upgrades to Special Seating and Spectator Areas

One of the main areas of focus during the renovation was the special seating section, which had long been in need of refurbishment. The special seating area, reserved for VIPs and high-ranking officials, had previously been criticized for its outdated design and poor accessibility. The renovation work aimed to enhance these areas by replacing old seats with more comfortable, modern ones, while also improving the overall layout to provide better sightlines for spectators.

Additionally, efforts were made to improve the seating in the general spectator sections of the stadium. Many of the original seats, which had been in place since the stadium’s construction in the 1970s, were replaced with newer, more durable alternatives. These changes not only improved the comfort of the stadium for spectators but also helped to meet safety requirements, as the old seats had become a potential hazard over time.

Infrastructure Improvements

Beyond seating upgrades, one of the most crucial aspects of the renovation involved improving the stadium’s infrastructure. This included changes to the passages, which had long been a concern for both spectators and safety officials. By expanding and redesigning the passageways, the stadium could accommodate the large crowds more efficiently, reducing congestion and improving emergency evacuation procedures.

Other improvements included modifications to the judges’ rooms, the AFC Secretariat, and the observers’ rooms. These areas were critical for hosting high-profile matches, and the renovations aimed to modernize them to meet international expectations. The doping inspection room, which is a requirement for hosting international competitions, also received much-needed attention, with new equipment and facilities being installed.
