The death of Lt. Gen. Mehrmand, the last tactical commander of the Imperial Air Force

Faced with the threat of execution or imprisonment, Mehrmand made the difficult decision to flee Iran. Along with many of his colleagues, he sought refuge abroad, eventually settling in the United States. Despite being far from his homeland, Mehrmand never gave up his fight against the Islamic Republic. His exile marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, one that was defined by his unwavering opposition to the regime in Tehran.

Life in Exile: A Voice of Resistance

Once settled in the United States, Lieutenant General Mehrmand dedicated himself to the cause of opposing the Islamic Republic. He became an active member of the Iranian expatriate community, regularly participating in political organizations and conferences that aimed to raise awareness about the situation in Iran and the oppressive policies of the new regime. Mehrmand used his military expertise to advise various opposition groups, although he always remained committed to peaceful resistance rather than military action.

One of his key contributions during this time was his work in maintaining and fostering ties between former members of the Imperial military. Many exiled Iranian officers, scattered across Europe and North America, found themselves isolated and unsure of their futures. Mehrmand played a significant role in bringing these individuals together, providing them with a sense of purpose and direction as they navigated life in exile.

In addition to his political activities, Mehrmand was also known for his public speeches and writings, where he would openly criticize the Islamic Republic’s policies, particularly its treatment of the military. He was a firm believer in the idea that a democratic and free Iran could only be achieved through unity among Iranians, both at home and abroad. His messages of hope and resistance resonated with many in the Iranian diaspora, particularly those who had suffered under the regime’s repressive policies.
