A pilot who did not carry out a specific military order

The western regions of Iran, particularly areas like Kermanshah and Sarpol Zahab, became focal points of military operations after the revolution, as tensions with Iraq escalated into what would become the protracted Iran-Iraq War. Sohilian’s exceptional flying skills, combined with his leadership qualities, made him a key player in these conflict zones. His role was not limited to combat; he often took charge of operations, leading by example and inspiring his fellow pilots with his bravery and determination.

The Iran-Iraq War, which broke out in 1980, would cement Sohilian’s place in history. The war, which lasted for eight brutal years, saw countless Iranian soldiers and pilots fighting to protect their homeland from Saddam Hussein’s forces. Hamidreza Sohilian was no exception. As a Cobra helicopter pilot, he became one of the most active members of the Iranian Air Force in the western theater of the war.
