Mossadegh’s visit to Egypt in November 1951 allows us to further examine his influence on the political discourse in Egypt. In this important trip, Mossadegh was regarded as a great national hero. With mass demonstrations, the Egyptian people asked their leaders to accept the responsibility of their country’s fate and stand up against the western powers like Mossadegh, bring Egypt to national sovereignty and never let this country be humiliated like the Abedin Palace incident.
This research is based on two types of primary sources: “British National Archives” documents and Egyptian newspapers and magazines. Political correspondence between the British Embassy in Cairo and the Foreign Office in London, the embassy’s investigations of local media and interviews of British diplomats with Egyptian public figures are archival documents to better understand the situation. Using these sources, I have examined the importance of the Mossadegh crisis in Egypt at the time of its occurrence. By looking at editorials and newspaper articles, I show how Egyptian media and celebrities used Mossadegh and his visit to promote the ideals of domestic politics.
