Challenges Post-Revolution
The 1979 Iranian Revolution brought significant changes to the country’s socio-political landscape, and Bahmanesh’s career was not immune to its effects. Following the revolution, he was dismissed from his position at Iranian Radio and Television. Despite being offered the opportunity to return, Bahmanesh declined, signaling his disapproval of the new political environment and its impact on freedom of expression.
This decision marked a turning point in his career, as he stepped away from public life. Nevertheless, his contributions to Iranian sports journalism and administration continued to be remembered and celebrated by those who had followed his work over the years.
Later Years and Legacy
In his later years, Bahmanesh faced significant personal challenges. After suffering a stroke, he experienced homelessness and endured a prolonged period of illness. On Monday morning, at the age of 94, he was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Gandhi Hospital Hotel in Tehran. Despite receiving medical care for about a month, Bahmanesh passed away at 12:30 PM on July 11, 2017, in the intensive care unit of Bank Melli Hospital.
