As soon as the Syrian president got off the plane, he warmly shook the king’s hand at the foot of the plane’s stairs, and the queen welcomed her distinguished guests. Then the Syrian president introduced his entourage. The mayor of Tehran presented the golden key of the city to the distinguished guests at a ceremony held in Shahyad Square. Then the president and his wife, along with the king and queen, left for Golestan Palace, where they resided. The talks between the king and Syrian president Hafez al-Assad will begin tomorrow morning in Tehran.
High-ranking Iranian and Syrian delegations will participate in these talks, and issues of interest to the two countries will be discussed. Abdel Halim Khaddam, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Syria, and Mohammad Al-Mahmadi, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade. Shaker Faham, Minister of Higher Education of Syria; Fawzi Kayani, Minister of Culture and National Art; and Adib Al-Dawudi, Special Advisor to the President for Political Affairs, are participating. A high-ranking delegation from Iran will also participate in tomorrow’s talks.
