Challenges and Controversies
Despite her successes, Kabuli faced numerous challenges, particularly after the Islamic Revolution. Restrictions on artistic expression forced her to perform solo dances exclusively for female audiences. A significant controversy arose in 1995 when a video of one of her dance classes was leaked. This incident led to her forced retirement from the Persian art scene and marked a turning point in her life.
The mid-1990s also saw the release of a controversial video capturing a private dance party involving Kabuli and Amir Soleimani. The backlash from this incident brought additional scrutiny and challenges for Kabuli, as well as for other artists present at the event.
Emigration and Continued Work Abroad
Following these challenges, Kabuli emigrated to the United States, where she continued her work in dance, this time focusing on teaching modern dance. Living abroad allowed her to maintain her connection to the art form she loved while avoiding the restrictions she faced in Iran. Over the years, she also performed in Germany and Australia, furthering her international reputation.
Kabuli’s performances abroad reflected her enduring passion for dance and her commitment to sharing Iranian culture with the world. Despite the difficulties she encountered, she remained a vibrant and influential figure in the arts.
