10 Facts About Jimmy Carter You May Not Know

Opposes Abortion, Supports Same-Sex Marriage
Jimmy Carter described himself as a “born-again Christian.” During his presidency, he opposed abortion and insisted that federal funds should not be used for it. However, Carter declared that he would accept the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion nationally.

However, after leaving the White House, Carter reversed his previous beliefs and claimed, in a 180-degree turn, “I believe Jesus would have approved of same-sex marriage.” Carter also served as a Sunday school teacher at Maranta Baptist Church in Plains. His meetings, which were held more than 800 times, were so popular that attendees lined up the night before to reserve seats.
