Elaheh, born in the historic Baghshah neighborhood of Tehran, was a celebrated figure in traditional Iranian music. Her journey from a quiet child singing secretly in her room to an internationally acclaimed artist is one of perseverance, talent, and determination. With a career spanning nearly five decades, Elaheh became a prominent figure in Iran’s music scene, leaving behind a legacy of over 700 songs.
Early Life and Beginnings
Elaheh’s interest in music began at an early age. Born into a family that did not initially support her passion for singing, she found herself practicing her art in private. In an era when societal norms often restricted women’s public involvement in the arts, Elaheh faced significant obstacles. However, her life took a turn in 1954 when she married Khairullah Yeganeh, a financier and intellectual who provided steadfast support for her artistic ambitions.
Through the support of her husband and fortuitous connections, Elaheh was introduced to key figures in the music industry, including Majid Fafadar, who played a pivotal role in her professional entry into music. This introduction, facilitated by her neighbor Parviz Khatibi, eventually led her to Dawood Pirnia, the creator of the renowned “Golha” program on Iran Radio.
