Memorable pictures of Saadi theater performances

Saadi Theater is considered one of the most influential theaters in the history of Iranian theater. This theater was created and established after Abdul Hossein Noushin’s dispute with the investors of Farhang Theater and the termination of cooperation with Abdul Karim Amoui from Noushin. It was established about twenty months after the closure of Ferdowsi Theater, in the fall of 1329.

Saadi Theater was closed in 1330 on the first night of the performance of “The Red Cloak” by Major General Mansour Mesti, the head of the city police at the time. The very next day, the actors and artists of this theater, together with a group of people, occupied Baharestan Square in front of the National Assembly, which ultimately led to the re-opening of Saadi Theater.

Saadi Theater was one of the locations set on fire during the coup d’etat of August 28, 1332. The theater suffered extensive damage and was later repurposed.

The venue of Saadi Theater was eventually converted into “Saadi Cinema,” which operated for several years until it was destroyed by fire again in 1348. The blaze consumed the building within three hours, leaving only ashes behind.
