Looking Ahead: Iran to Host the 18th ECO Summit in 2027
Concluding the summit, it was officially announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran would host the 18th ECO Summit in 2027. The announcement reflects the rotational and inclusive nature of the organization while giving Iran an opportunity to showcase its development strategies, particularly in climate resilience and science diplomacy.
President Ebrahim Raisi sent a strong message of support to the 17th Summit, calling for “consolidated sovereignty, environmental cooperation, and mutual cultural respect” as cornerstones of the ECO future.
The 17th ECO Summit held in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, was more than just a diplomatic event—it was a manifestation of a region rising from the ashes of conflict to embrace a sustainable, cooperative, and resilient future.
Under the visionary leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan positioned itself not only as a strategic bridge between continents but also as a model for green reconstruction, inclusive growth, and regional leadership.
With the Khankendi Declaration and the adoption of ECO-2035 goals, the summit laid the foundation for a more integrated, self-reliant, and environmentally responsible ECO region. As member states now turn to implementing these strategic objectives, the echoes of Khankendi will continue to inspire a new generation of policymakers, entrepreneurs, and citizens committed to a better and greener future for all.
