Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri was born into a religious family. His father, Abolghasem Nateg Nouri, was a respected figure in Noor, known for his piety and attachment to Shi’a clerical traditions. At the age of 10, Ali Akbar moved to Tehran, where he began his seminary education. This early migration exposed him to the vibrant and politically active religious environment of the capital, particularly the circles surrounding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who would later lead the Iranian Revolution.
Nateq Nouri’s theological studies began in earnest in the Qom Seminary, one of the most prestigious centers of Shi’a scholarship. His main teachers included some of the leading clerical figures of the 20th century:
-
Ayatollah Seyyed Ruhollah Khomeini (founder of the Islamic Republic)
-
Morteza Motahari, a philosopher and ideologue of the revolution
-
Ahmad Mojtahid Tehrani, a renowned theologian
-
Sheikh Mohammad Taghi Falsafi, the celebrated orator
Alongside his seminary education, Nateq Nouri earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from the University of Tehran, majoring in Islamic Philosophy and Wisdom. This dual background—seminary and academic—equipped him with the intellectual and political tools necessary to navigate the emerging clerical state.
