One of the most striking examples, recalled in Baslian’s account, is how the community handled the Islamic declaration of faith.

Publicly, they recited the shahada, affirming belief in God and the Prophet Muhammad. But privately, some would subtly alter their intention—whispering “Moses” instead of “Muhammad” under their breath.

This act may seem small, but it carried enormous significance. It allowed individuals to maintain internal religious continuity while outwardly conforming.
