Abdullah Movahed Memorial Wrestling Career, Olympic Gold Medal Legacy, and Death

The Beginning of Abdullah Movahed’s Wrestling Career

Abdollah Movahed officially began competing in wrestling in 1959. Within a short period, coaches realized they were witnessing the emergence of an extraordinary talent. His wrestling style was unique because it combined speed, technical precision, creativity, and strategic thinking. Unlike wrestlers who relied purely on strength, Movahed understood angles, timing, and movement better than almost anyone in his generation.

In 1960, he participated in the Iranian Olympic Trials, a major achievement for a young wrestler still developing his skills. Wrestling experts immediately noticed his technical brilliance. Coaches believed that if he improved his conditioning and gained more international experience, he could become a world champion.

Their prediction proved correct.

Throughout the 1960s, Abdullah Movahed became nearly unstoppable in international freestyle wrestling competitions. Between 1965 and 1970, he dominated every major tournament he entered. During this golden era, he won multiple world championship gold medals and established himself as one of the greatest lightweight wrestlers in wrestling history.
