As the Cannes Film Festival enters its fourth day, Friday’s lineup features the return of acclaimed Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi with his French-language debut, Soudain (All Of A Sudden), Karma from Guillaume Canet, and Marie Kreutzer’s drama, Gentle Monster.
Hamaguchi’s drama stars Virginie Efira as a Parisian nursing home director fighting to implement an innovative care philosophy called Humanitude. Her life takes a profound turn when she crosses paths with a terminally ill Japanese theater director, played by Tao Okamoto. Together, the two women forge a transformative friendship, uniting in a shared mission.
