Masoud Kimiai is one of the most influential filmmakers and screenwriters in the history of cinema. Born in Tehran in 1941, he became particularly prominent during the late 1960s and 1970s, a period that saw major changes in filmmaking and popular culture. Kimiai began his filmmaking career in the 1960s and gained widespread recognition with films that focused on working-class characters, social inequality, friendship, loyalty, honor, and the struggles of people living on the margins of society.
His characters were often ordinary men confronting difficult social circumstances, and his films developed a distinctive style that combined popular entertainment with social commentary. One of his most important films is Qeysar (1969), a landmark work in cinema. The film’s story of revenge, honor, and personal justice resonated strongly with audiences and helped establish Kimiai as a major filmmaker.
