The film is widely regarded as one of Kimiai’s major works and is notable for its portrayal of characters struggling against difficult social and personal circumstances. Kimiai’s filmmaking is characterized by strong dialogue, memorable characters, urban settings, and recurring themes of masculinity, loyalty, betrayal, justice, and social marginalization. His protagonists frequently live in a world where traditional values collide with rapid social change.
After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Kimiai continued making films under the new cultural and political conditions. His later work remained connected to the concerns that had defined much of his earlier cinema, although his films and their reception changed alongside Iranian society and the country’s film industry.
