Writing is often imagined as a profession that requires a person to spend all of their time reading and creating stories. However, the lives of many famous writers show that this is not always the case. A large number of successful writers had other jobs before they became well known, and some continued working in other professions throughout their literary careers.
These jobs gave them experiences that they could later use in their books, poems, plays, and essays. Their professional lives helped them understand different kinds of people and gave them opportunities to observe society from different perspectives. One of the most interesting examples is Miguel de Cervantes, the Spanish author of Don Quixote. Before becoming famous as a writer, Cervantes was a soldier and later worked in various government positions. His experiences of war, travel, poverty, and financial difficulties influenced his understanding of human nature.
