Behrouz Vossoughi was born in Khoy, a historic city in northwestern Iran, on March 11, 1937. His birth name was Khalil Vossoughi, although he later adopted Behrouz as his professional name.
During his teenage years, Vossoughi moved to Tehran, Iran’s capital and cultural center. This relocation introduced him to a rapidly developing urban environment where cinema, theater, and modern entertainment were becoming increasingly popular.
Growing up during a period of significant social transformation, Vossoughi witnessed changes in Iranian society that would later influence the characters he portrayed. Many of his most memorable roles reflected the struggles of ordinary people confronting poverty, inequality, injustice, and changing cultural values.
Vossoughi has two brothers, Changiz Vossoughi and Shahrad Vossoughi. Although he eventually achieved extraordinary fame, his early years were characterized by the challenges and opportunities associated with building a career in Iran’s developing film industry.
His interest in acting gradually developed into a professional ambition. Through determination, natural talent, and opportunities to work with established filmmakers, he began his journey toward becoming one of Iran’s most recognizable performers.
