The fate of the black Bahai couple

Hoshang Mahmoudi is remembered as a pioneering figure in Iranian media and a devoted member of the Baha’i faith. Born into a Baha’i family, he devoted his life to the promotion of both his religion and Iranian culture. Throughout his career, he became one of Iran’s earliest program creators and hosts for children’s and teenagers’ shows on national radio and television. In addition to his contribution to the media, he produced films focused on the history of the Baha’i faith, documenting historical Baha’i sites such as the Tehran dungeon and the House of Hazrat Báb in Shiraz.

On August 30, 1980 (1359 in the Persian calendar), Mahmoudi was kidnapped during a National Spiritual Assembly meeting with the Deputy Board. He, along with other members of the assembly and Deputy Board members, were taken by armed forces and disappeared. Since that day, no further information regarding their whereabouts has been found. His mysterious abduction marked a tragic chapter in the history of Baha’is in Iran.


Early Life and Education

Hoshang Mahmoudi was raised in a Baha’i family, which strongly influenced his beliefs, values, and aspirations. This background encouraged him to work in fields that would allow him to promote unity, service, and social progress. Mahmoudi pursued his education at Tehran University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in law. During his studies, he developed a keen interest in media and film, which would shape his career path.
