Many may not know Alireza Majalal by name, but when the name Mirza Kouchak Khan Jangli is mentioned, the actor’s face in the role of Kouchak Jangli is subconsciously imagined. A role that is still remembered after nearly three decades, and the actor himself considers it the greatest chance of his life.
Majalal, who emigrated from Iran after appearing in the film Maybe Another Time in 2018, has been working in Sweden for many years. He is currently considering acting offers from Iran, hoping to return to Iranian cinema with a suitable role after a long absence. Recently, ISNA’s film reporter managed to interview the actor in Stockholm, thanks to the efforts of the son of Fariborz Saleh, a veteran Iranian film director. The interview took place in a serene library, surrounded by the quiet hum of Swedish life.

Leaving Homeland: The Turning Point
First, let’s start with your immigration. A question that has been on the minds of many: why did you leave Iran?
A problem arose with the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation, where I was employed, which left me deeply disheartened. At the time, I was fully committed to my work, pouring all my energy into producing Little Forest. However, despite my dedication, an unexpected and disheartening incident occurred. They later acknowledged it was a mistake, but by then, it was too late.
