Behzad Nabavi, born on July 13, 1942, is a prominent Iranian politician and a key figure in the history of political activism within the country. He has been known for his long-standing involvement with various political movements and organizations, notably the Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution Organization, where he earned the nickname “The Old Guerrilla” due to his active participation in revolutionary struggles. Over the years, Nabavi has held multiple significant governmental roles, from Deputy Prime Minister for Executive Affairs to Minister of Heavy Industries, and served as an influential member of Iran’s political and economic spheres.
Early Life and Education
Behzad Nabavi was born into a family with intellectual roots. His father, Hassan Nabavi, authored a thesis titled From the Constitutional Revolution to the White Revolution, suggesting an affiliation with the Pahlavi monarchy. Despite this, the Nabavi family was not overtly religious, and his mother, Shifteh Herovabadi, had a prominent position as the head of the Iranian Nurses Association before the revolution. Nabavi’s upbringing was shaped by both academic and political influences, as he recounts in various interviews about his family history and intellectual inheritance.
