After more than a decade of building virtual reality technology, Meta is introducing a new generation of immersive computing with Meta VR Glasses, a device designed to redefine what people expect from virtual reality. Launching in Spring 2027, Meta VR Glasses represent the company’s most advanced VR device yet, combining high-resolution visual experiences, powerful computing, artificial intelligence, immersive audio, and a glasses-like design into a remarkably compact system.
The goal is ambitious: to deliver the experience of a cinema, a courtside seat, a private workspace, and a gaming console in a device that looks and feels much more like a pair of glasses than a traditional virtual reality headset. Weighing approximately 100 grams, Meta VR Glasses are designed to make immersive computing more comfortable and practical for everyday use.
A New Approach to Virtual Reality
Traditional VR headsets have made immersive digital experiences possible, but their size and weight can make extended use challenging. Large straps, substantial hardware, and the weight of the device itself can sometimes make users feel as though they are wearing a piece of equipment rather than a pair of glasses.
Meta VR Glasses take a different approach.
The new device is built around a breakthrough glasses-like form factor. Instead of relying on straps or placing all of the computer hardware directly on the user’s head, Meta has separated the system into two main components. The glasses themselves contain the display and sensors, while a compact external puck handles much of the computing, battery, and storage.
