Carlos Queiroz’s island in Mozambique

Queiroz’s connection to Mozambique is deeply personal: he was born in Nampula, and has spoken about returning to “his land” to recharge. The idea of investing in an island could be more than business: it might reflect a desire to give back, help preserve his place of origin, or create a meaningful legacy. According to the Boletim da República in Mozambique, the company Niassalândia Lda (of which Queiroz is a founder) was established in 2011, with plans for mining, timber, and gem extraction.

The registered share capital of that company was very low (~50,000 Meticais), which seems discordant with the scale of investment discussed in the media (i.e., millions of euros). There may be a gap between planned/budgeted investment vs actual capital deployed, or the early stages of a project that has not fully materialized as of public reporting.
