Sophy Roberts of the Financial Times wrote (January 2009) ‘Vamizi deserves to be the best eco-beach retreat on the planet. It’s certainly the best sand I have ever seen’. The most credible claim is that Queiroz has some form of investment in Vazimi Island (“Ilha de Vazimi”) in the Quirimbas archipelago via his business interests. However, “ownership” is not as clean-cut in public records: his name appears linked to a company that aims to exploit resources, not necessarily to operate a purely private luxury island.
There is ambiguity: sources differ on how developed or “owned” the island really is, and whether Queiroz’s involvement is operational, passive, or speculative. The reported capital of Niassalândia is surprisingly low: only 50,000 Meticais. According to SOL, this is roughly just over €1,000. However, the same reports mention that Queiroz has further investments (or planned investments) worth €9 million in two business lines: Mozambique Wild Adventures Lda and a project on “the Ilha de Vazimi” in the Quirimbas Archipelago.
