The number of released POWs varies among the sources consulted. According to Iran’s official POW Commission’s findings, as reported in the Voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran First Network, 44,936 Iraqi POWs have been released in return for 39,043 Iranian POWs, and since 1990, an additional 11,055 prisoners and bodies have been returned to the Iraqi authorities (13 July 1994).
