Officially, the persian government disdains American cinema: in 2007 President Ahmadinejad’s media adviser told the Fars news agency, “We believe that the American cinema system is devoid of all culture and art and is only used as a device.” However, numerous Western commercial films such as Jaws, The Illusionist, Passion of the Christ, House of Sand and Fog, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Sherlock Holmes, Alpha and Omega, Scarface, Casino Royale, The Mechanic, and The Aviator have been screened in persian cinemas and persian film festivals since the revolution.
