The selection of Homeland’s most meritorious girl was one of the initiatives of Zan Rooz magazine, affiliated with Kayhan Press-Publishing Institute, which started with the name Dokhtar Bahar in 1965, and Sima Izadjo won the first competition. This event has been officially held since 1985 under the name of Miss Homeland, and 13 selected girls were sent to the Miss World contest, out of which only Samin Yari won the title of Miss World.
