On Shahrivar 58, the prosecutor at the time in Tehran, Abolfazl Shahshahani, summoned Mohammad Montazeri to the prosecutor’s office and issued a warrant for him to be prosecuted and banned from leaving the country. Shahshahani said about issuing this sentence: “We do not judge the political thinking of Mr. Mohammad Montazeri; that is, the revolution was made so that no one’s political thinking would be inspected. Mohammad Montazeri may be a member of a political party or faction with a specific social perspective. However, the prosecutor’s office not only has nothing to do with the schools of thought of individuals and groups, but rather it is the protector of rights and the provider of freedom for all people with any ethnic orientation, and this is basically the philosophy of the revolution.
